The Dos And Don'ts Of Plus Size Clothing

The Dos And Don'ts Of Plus Size Clothing

Big, bold and beautiful, not a lot of people can proudly carry that on their shoulders

. In fact, it takes much effort for the voluptuous and shapeless to feel completely confident. With magazines being over-populated by stick thin models, and boutiques only carrying dress sizes of what they define as normal, dressing up for the plus size individual has become an awful feat.

Many women try to fit themselves into clothes that are a few sizes smaller, and some hide their figures behind tasteless clothes. It is not uncommon for women to fall victim to the fashion police because of very limited clothing choices available for the bigger sizes.

Thankfully, due to designers with an increased awareness the amount of plus sized clothing has increased, and a number of popular brands now carry plus sizes that is allowing everyone to enjoy fashion and flaunt everything they have.

Flaunting, however, involves so much thought and care, so here are some tips that can help lessen your worries about dressing your plus size body figure:The Dos And Don'ts Of Plus Size Clothing

- Do not wear shapeless clothes. Bigger people have the tendency to want to slap on oversized clothes on their bodies to hide their curves. Do not do this because it will only make you look twice as big. Instead, wear something that fits you perfectly.

- Understand colour. While in the past you might have been told that dark colours such as black and navy are best for bigger people, it is not really the case. Yes, dark is slimming but dressing up is not always about looking slim. A magnificently tailored dress in a very appealing colour, will bring more attention to you skin tone, face shape and eye colour, so do not always think that you have to wear black.

- Do not wear clothes that are heavily printed with oversized patterns. Do not pick garments that have big polka dots, stars or any other awkward shape for that matter. Overwhelming prints will only exacerbate your figure, so keep it simple.

- Do not try to fit yourself into a smaller size. This is the biggest mistake most plus size people make. If you want to look sexy, get clothes that fit you well. Bulges are not very attractive and if you try to squeeze into a size 14 and you really are a 16, the bulges will come out. Let it flow and let the fabric hug your figure and follow your curves.

- For women, wear a bra that is your size. Bras that do not fit will have the tendency to dig in into your shoulders and back and can always ruin the look you are trying to achieve. Make sure to pick the right size of underwear. The Dos And Don'ts Of Plus Size Clothing

- Stay away from designs that do not suit you. Sleeveless designs will not always suit the plus size individual and will only make your arms look bigger. Stripes are also a bad idea, especially large horizontal stripes. It is also a good idea to stay away from shimmering colours that can reflect light back to your body and make you look bigger than you really are.

- Appreciate what you have. It is important, with plus size dressing, that you appreciate your body. Yes you are curvy. Yes you are voluptuous. Yes you are big. The truth is that whatever size you may be or whatever body type you may have; the right attitude still completes the outfit. If you feel awful, you will definitely look it. So be awesome all the time.

Big, bold and beautiful - there is nothing wrong with admitting that you are. Knowing your body is the first step in dressing up and your first weapon in fighting the fashion police.
