Tegan And Sara Tickets - Quin Sisters Branch Out With 'sainthood'
Tegan and Sara Quin have long been a power-pop duo worth mentioning in the music industry
, but they've switched things up for their latest full-length release Sainthood, and the results have yielded nothing but success so far. The Canadian power-pop duo Tegan and Sara released Sainthood on Oct. 27, and the album's significant shift from 2007's The Con, the sisters' previous release, is enough to sound the alarms.There were plenty of changes from The Con to Sainthood that have, perhaps, thrust the indie-centered Tegan and Sara into the big-time spotlight for the first time, and this change could be partly because of their slow embrace of the mainstream, as Sara recently told Billboard: "It's less of a goal to get on radio and more of a goal to not resist radio as much as we have in the past. We've had a really comfortable arc in our career, but at this point we recognize there is a fan base we have yet to entice. With this album, I know we have a shot at it."
Take, for example, Tegan and Sara's current hit single "Hell." Not just a paradox to their album titled Sainthood, "Hell" is a song with catchy hooks that still stays within the parameters of the artists' original style, though pushing a more mainstream appeal at the same time with its indie-pop flavor. "Hell" adds a slight element of rock with a definite bite to the duo's typically catchy power-pop tracks, and the soothing chorus of "no I'm not ready for downtown trash, avoid collection" in the song adds dimensions previously unheard of from this Canadian superband, with the track helping to launch Sainthood to the No. 21 slot on the Billboard 200 upon release.
Another difference between the new and improved Tegan and Sara of Sainthood has to do with songwriting, as this album marks the very first time that the twins have collaborated in co-writing some songs for an album. Previously, both musicians wrote songs solo and then collaborated on choosing which to include on albums, but with Sainthood the Quin sisters teamed up in what they described as an "awkward" process of songwriting, though just one of their co-written songs ultimately made the cut for Sainthood.
The non-religious album Sainthood has also been propelled along since its Oct. 27 release thanks to Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla, who helped on production along with Howard Redekopp. Walla convinced Tegan and Sara to use a full band in recording instead of overdubbing, as they have done in previous recordings, and the full effect is another welcomed change from the duo's previous album The Con. Recording Sainthood with a full band backing them has also prepared Tegan and Sara for the duo's upcoming tour, which will see a few dates in Europe throughout November before a much-anticipated two-month stint in the U.S. this coming February.
With the soaring success of Sainthood and its lead single "Hell" burning up the music scene, it's no wonder that Tegan and Sara tickets are hot sellers right now. Tegan and Sara may not be coming to the U.S. until February, but that only gives fans more time to get acquainted with Sainthood before this red-hot sisterly duo takes the stage by storm on tour.
