. To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee never again gained as much praise and success as she did than with the publication of To Kill a Mockingbird and its successful Oscar-winning film from 1962. Based around a son and daughter relationship, To Kill a Mockingbird largely focuses on racial injustice and the hypocritical nature of humanity, as well as growing up in the South during an important time for social change. Young Scout Finch is six years old and the story follows her as she learns about the world and how awful and beautiful it can be. In the end, Scout comes in close contact with the hermetic and shut-in Boo Radley, who many in town are frightened of. Scout's learns valuable lessons about life and human nature through her interaction with Boo Radley and his kind heartedness. Slaughterhouse-Five One of the most famous, caustic and hilarious anti-war novels, Kurt Vonneguts Slaughterhouse-Five is about the time travels of Billy Pilgrim and World War II. Pilgrim has somehow become unstuck in time and is able to experience past and future events and sees a dark, war-ravaged future. The narrator of the story explains at the beginning that it was the horrific experience of the fire-bombing of Dresden, Germany that set off the recollections in the book. The novel is seen by many as a satiristic criticism of the illogic of human beings and supporting the idea of free will. Vonnegut wrote throughout his life until his death in 2007, he was an anti-war proponent until the very end.
