Cell phones seem harmless enough and they are if they are used responsibly. The only problem we use to have with cell phones was the fact that it was annoying when someone was talking loudly on their phone in public. Texting has become the popular thing for teens to do. Many of them do not even realize that texting while driving kills.
Innocent people are being killed every day because someone is trying to drive and text at the same time. The smart thing to do would be to wait until you got out of the car to text or at least pull over. Unfortunately that is not what people are doing. There has even been a study that shows that texting while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk. That is a scary thought. A lot of people feel like the problem is with teens texting constantly and not being responsible about it. This may be true but teens are not the only ones guilty of texting while driving. Adults do it just as often as teens do. A lot of business people feel that they do not have enough time to wait until they get to the office to schedule a meeting, or set an appointment. Share: Someone can lose their life because an appointment had to be made right then and not fifteen minutes later when the car is parked. When your teen gets their license and heads out on the road for the first time you as parents are naturally worried and you should be.
Especially if they have a cell phone. Be sure to talk to your teens about the dangers of texting while driving. Explain that not only could they kill themselves in a car crash but they could take an innocent life with them. All parents know that you can have these talks with your children but there is nothing else you can do about it short of taking the cell phone from them when they are in the car. This is not always a great plan either because when your teen is on the road you want to know they have a way to call for help if something should go wrong. So what can you do to stop them from texting or talking on their cell phones while they are driving?
The answer is you cannot do anything but talk to them about the dangers and hope they listen to you. There are some states that have made it illegal to text or talk on your cell phone while driving. This is a great law and should be in effect in every state. Of course just because it is illegal to do it does not mean that people will stop but it may help to cut down on the fatalities caused by texting while driving.
Studies suggest that about twenty percent of people are texting while driving. This number is too high and we have to put a stop to it. There is nothing so important that it has to be texted right that very second. If you feel that you have to text something right away then pull your car over. You may just be saving yourself and someone else.
