Pupation takes place until they reach the adult stage. Once adulthood is reach, it last up to ten weeks before life ends for the ant.
Real damage is caused beneath the surface where their tunneling disturbs plant and grass roots. Eventually what happens is the soil dries-up causing the lawn to thin out and die.
Method to get rid of ants:
Using a hand held scoop and an effective fire ant killer, seek out mounds and spread the granules according to the package instruction. An additional step is to use the drenching method a month after ant killer was spread. Basically, you take boiling water and pour it over the mound.
