Rome Holidays

If you plan to visit Italy on your next holiday, don't forget to spend a few days taking in the history and glamour of Rome. Besides, being full of attractions that will take your breath away, Rome is one of the few cities in the world which merges history together with the modern. Art, architecture, paintings, monuments, historical wonders, a buzzing nightlife, world class cuisine and friendly people- this city has it all. In other words, Rome is certain to satisfy the curious learner and traveller in you and yet leave you wanting more of the Italian magic.

3 days in Rome is all you need to have an unforgettable experience. But like all trips, a planned itinerary, transport arrangements, a camera and lots of sunscreen is all you need to accompany you when you're sightseeing. Here's an idea of how to plan your 3 days.

1. Day One - Don't forget to visit the Roman Colosseum, which is an architectural wonder that rightly earns its place as one of the seven wonders in the world, in spite of its bloody history. The Palatine Hill located close by is considered the original birthplace of Rome, and soon became an important seat of political power. Take a peek into ancient Roman life by visiting the Roman Forum, which houses many ruins, old temples, frescoes, basilicas and arches. Spend some time admiring the famous Trevi Fountain completed in 1762 and which has served as a source of inspiration for many a poet and artist. As you enjoy a gelato, don't forget to toss a coin in the fountain. Legend has it that those who do, will return to Rome once again.Rome Holidays

2. Day Two - Why not spend the day visiting some must see museums and a few other monuments? The Piazza Campo dei Fiori is a good way to start the day and is quite close to the Santa Maria church located in Trestevere.Visit the Piazza Venezia designed by the great Michelangelo himself and which gives tourists a good view of the Roman Forum. The piazza is home to some of the oldest museums in the world and the Piazza Nuova is home to many must-see Greek and Roman sculptures.

3. Day Three - The Romans were famous for the roads they built and the Via Applia Antica is one such road which has been converted into a park. For your next stop, visit the famous catacombs which are not just burial places but also good sites of Christian art. The best way to enjoy the surroundings is to rent a bike or take a walk; that way you can enjoy the tombs and churches that surround this area as well. If you prefer to watch life go by, one of the best places to indulge in some people-watching is Piazza Navona where you can enjoy some tantalising dessert and admire the Baroque fountains as well.

A visit to Rome would not be complete without spending some time admiring the churches here which are home to many artistic masterpieces. Without doubt, the Vatican itself is a wonder to behold but there are many other churches which are famous and worth a visit. For instance, churches like San Giovanni, San Paolo, Santa Maria with many Byzantine mosaics and especially San Clemente with three levels of Roman Architecture are a few must visit sites. Other wonders such as the Baths of Caracalla located at the foot of the Aventine Hill are a good example of social life in ancient times and are worth visiting if you have enough time on your hands. With plenty of restaurants located near tourist sites and lots of good accommodation for travellers; a few days in Rome promises to be an unforgettable vacation for you.
