Placing Heartfelt Emotion Into Christmas Hampers
Of all the gifts I have received at Christmas time
, some of the most heartfelt have been hampers, customised for me. My favourites have included items for my scrap booking, in colours that I adore. Also, an aromatherapy basket, resplendent with lavender oil, soaps, bath salts and sprigs of the aromatic herb, bound with purple ribbon. As a mum, with not a great deal of spare cash, a food hamper with the items I love is appreciated.I have put together a hamper for a friend who lost her mother, complete with a poem regarding grief, soothing music, and a prayer book. I know it shall mean a lot to her. There is nothing more charming at this time of year than to be given a basket brimming with the items that have a deep personal meaning.
A friend of mine lost her baby boy recently, and to commemorate his sad passing, I wrote a children's story, featuring him and his wondrous adventures in a faraway land. I also included a memorial candle. They are incredibly easy to make. Simply take a large pillar candle, a picture of the beloved, and then pin it on with scrap booking brads. Finish by writing their name in permanent pen and add a smattering of glitter glue. A bow constructed from a sheer fabric is a lovely finishing touch.
If you are low on funds, you can still construct something beautiful, which shall be appreciated. Most of us wish for the gift of precious time, more than anything else. Time with our partners, time to ourselves, more quality time with our kids, or to finish overdue work or lingering domestic chores. Buy some cardboard in various shades, and make up a series of vouchers.
One could offer an evening of babysitting, another to clean the house or car. If you are skilled with computers, you could offer to check their software and put in place upgrades for anything that is lacking. Imagine how grateful they would be to have a secure, quicker system! If you are good at hair styling, massage or doing nails, these can be offered. For a widower, you could include vouchers for cups of tea and a chat.
For a forlorn friend who has recently divorced, you could offer to accompany them to an evening on the town. A young mum would relish the promise of a freezer filled with meals. For a loved one trying to better their health, you could promise to be their exercise buddy on long walks. Put the various vouchers in a basket or tray, and wrap in coloured cellophane and finish with festive ribbon. As you can see, a bit of forethought produces a gift of great beauty.
I advise you to get going with your planning by November, and do a basket each evening. By the time Christmas arrives, you will have in place a selection of beautiful Christmas Hampers. Your kindness shall never be forgotten.
