Organize Your Finance, Your Kids, Your Life! Weekly Tip # 13 of 2010

Reminders: Are you always forgetting the same thing

? Do you commonly forget to grab your cell phone, put out the garbage, feed the cat, or even do something as simple as getting the hair/lint off of your coat before you leave for the day? The important thing to remember about reminders is -- if you can't see it, you are most likely to forget it. So keep that reminder note or the item itself always visible and in a place you know you will check before leaving for the day. One place that no one ever seems to think of is right on the front door - but if you think about it - you cannot possibly go out the door without seeing that note if you place it at eye level.

Another thing to keep in mind is if you use the same color or type of note to remind yourself of the same thing over and over, you won't notice it as often anymore, so try mixing it up a bit by using different color notes or ink, or maybe even different shaped notes once in awhile.

Try these tips...

For your cell phone try keeping a post it note that reminds you to bring your cell phone with you right beside your cell phone charger. Then, whenever you are charging your phone, take that reminder note and immediately place it with other items that you know you won't forget to bring with you the next day (such as your purse, wallet or coat). When you have grabbed your cell phone, put the note back (next to the charger) for the next time you will need it. This will save you from having to write yourself the same note over and over again.

The same concept applies for the garbage, feeding the cat and other daily duties as well. Write yourself a post-it note and leave it on your calendar, or in a basket with your car keys or a basket with other prewritten reminder notes, then the day you need that reminder, take that note out and place it where you will be sure to see it, then when the task has been completed, put the note back for the next time you may need it. For other types of reminders such as remembering to get the hair/lint off of your coat before you leave each morning: leave the lint roller right next to your coats where you will be sure to see it every time you get your coat.
