Lapland has all sorts of activities to do in the summer months and if you are a lover of horses, Lapland offers a fantastic treat for both being around and riding these beautiful creatures through the beautiful countryside which is home to the midnight sun, where there is 24 hour light from Mid June onwards. There are many places you can horse ride, both in the summer and winter months in Lapland. In winter time Nordic horse riding is done through the snowy forests of Lapland and in the summer, you can visit one of the horse farms where you can go out into the wilderness and pick wild herbs and mushrooms which grow wildly on the open grasslands of Lapland before going on a wonderful ride through the forests. All abilities are catered for and there are different trips ranging from half day horse riding trips to full days. There are also the wonderful fishing trips where you will be taken out to fish for some of the local fish. After you have caught your fish, you will be taken to a base camp fire where you will cook your fish supper. Why not try some canoeing, which the children will absolutely love. At the beginning of summer, the water is at its fastest providing great opportunities to have speedy exhilarating canoe trips. Or why not viosit Pakasaivo, (known as Laplands hell). Pakasaivo is one of Laplands most popular summer sights. The pool at the bottom of the gorge was a sacred place for the Sami people of Lapland (indigenous people of Lapland). You can actually go right up to the edge of the rocky precipice and the views are simply breathtaking. There is also the Nordic fitness sports park in Yllas, There are eleven different trails, all with various levels. Each route is marked with different colours depending on your level of fitness and experience. Both villages in Yllas (Akaslompolo and Yllasjarvi) Each village has starting points for the trails and each trail will take you through fantastic scenery and breathtaking views. There are also so many other things going on in Yllas during the summer and Yllas Soikoon is a music event which is held mid July and brings Finnish dance and schlager music together.
