, Kings of Leon continues to tour through the summer. The Nashville based indie rock outfit has returned to the studio for a new album. According to NME, Kings of Leon frontman Nathan Followill tweeted that early April's recording sessions were "a musical success" and that the group "put down some jams that I think you all will like."Luckily for the group, fans are going to like most anything they produce, as they continue to support a release that appeared nearly two years ago. Though the latest set topped the charts in the UK and has sold millions of copies around the world, the boys admitted last year that they are ready for musical maturity. "You never know with us, we kinda change it up every record," Caleb said during last year's Brit Awards. "I mean, from our first record to our fourth, sounds like a different band." The alt-rockers are sure to play some of the new hits while on the road this year, hitting several North American cities for the second time through late September. Spinner is even convinced that the group's dates in London's Hyde Park will feature some of those new tracks.
Only by the Night is the group's first platinum record featuring the popular tracks "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody." It also hit the right notes for Grammy voters, as the quartet picked up its second set of trophies for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Record of the Year. The fourth album was an uncharacteristically successful set for music critics, who believed the group had tapped out during their 2007 album Because of the Times. Instead, Only by the Night was an unparalleled album that established Kings of Leon as a band with more than just one hit.
"After three records and touring for five years straight, we knew what we were capable of," Nathan Followill added on the website in regards to the 2008 release. '"We just had to take it to the next level." And they did with the platinum Only by the Night. On a hot streak, the group is moving forward from Only by the Night success to the next, with the yet-untitled set.
The group premiered in 2003 with Holy Roller Novocain, an album that featured the work of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared, as well as cousin Matthew Followill. Moving from just a small Southern rock band to an RCA-signed artist took its tolls on the group's personal life, but not without the benefit of some great music. Supporting their first EP on tour, Kings of Leon appeared with the full-length Youth & Young Manhood that same year, followed by 2004's Aha Shake Heartbreak. Celebrities in the UK, the group opened for U2 and worked on the 2007 release Because of the Times. 2007's album was the first to reach the U.S. Billboard charts, debuting at the 25th position.
