How To Stop Your Child From Watching Too Much TV

Television is a technology praised by many, cursed by just as many as well. It does not help that television companies make sure that they have shows which could addict a child to watch and leave all other activities in the air. Obviously this has worried and stressed out millions of parents around the world. Here are just some of the methods which could help the parents control the amount of time spent in front of the television.1. Regulations. Boundaries need to be clarified. Children should not be left alone to fend for themselves, they need the guidance of those boundaries to keep them in the right track. Rules are rules and should be upheld at all times by both the parents and the children who need to conform to the rules and regulations set by their parents. And exactly when should these rules be set? Answer: as young as 1 year of age.2. Time limits. Rules are one form of boundaries; the schedules are those limitations where the boundaries lie under. Parents should make it clear from the onset that the children could only watch television on certain days of the week. There are some who only allow their children to watch Friday and Saturday nights. Other days are to be considered school night and no TV nights. It should be expected that the children would complain and gripe but the parents should stand firm on their regulations or else. Again, start out when the kids are their youngest, when they first start school.3. Agreements. The kids can break the rules set by the parents, but they have to pay for breaking the rules. Start off with warnings. The child could lose their TV privileges on the third offense. It should be made clear that each rule broken would mean loss of privileges. But it does not always mean that they lose only TV privileges, it could be other privileges they enjoy.4. Parental Guidance. Parents should learn to distinguish what their children could watch and what they could not watch. Some parents leave their children in front of the TV so they could do their chores. This is wrong. Make sure to know what programs are coming out on those times the children can watch. Once the children are caught watching programs not approved of by their parents could mean a loss on privilege.5. School grades dictate the right to watch TV. Television should only be watched if it does not affect the academic performance of the child. For as long as the children's grades are up to par, they could continue watching, but if they start falling, then they could get limitations until they raise the grades again. It may sound harsh for some, but if the grades continue to fall, the kids lose TV rights.
