Direct Treatment and Different Methods of Treating External and Internal Hemorrhoids

Treating hemorrhoids is not an easy task. Ask someone who has had it before and they will tell you that they hope it will never happen again. That's because although hemorrhoids is not a dangerous or uncommon disease, it's very painful and uncomfortable to deal with for a long period.

Generally there are two types of hemorrhoids. The first type is the internal hemorrhoid, which takes place inside the digestive tract while the second type is the external hemorrhoid. The internal one is a bit hard to spot because it's on the inside. In fact, it's almost painless and the only way to know if it's there is if there is bleeding on the patient's stool. The external hemorrhoids, however, are more painful and irritating, but they are visible to the naked eye because they are found outside the rectum.

It's important to know the difference between the two because they have different methods of treatment. In this article we will focus on the external hemorrhoids.

Treating external hemorrhoids is more direct because the patient can actually see and touch the inflamed parts of the skin just outside the anus.

One method of treatment is taking a warm bath. This will not only provide immediate relief from the itching and burning sensations of the external hemorrhoids but it will also induce the swollen veins to shrink. Alternatively, you can try the Sitz Spa, which is dipping your buttocks in a bowl of warm water with a special kind of salt. This is medically proven to be more effective than the usual warm bath.

Another treatment option would be to use anti-hemorrhoid creams and ointments. These are mostly over-the-counter products that are meant to help soothe the pain as well as gradually reduce the swollen veins. This is a method meant for external hemorrhoids because there are no known creams or ointments or other topical products that are meant to treat internal hemorrhoids.

Lastly, there's surgery. Surgical procedures are much easier to perform on external hemorrhoids because they can be seen from the outside. But of course, this is not to say that the stuff like laser surgery do not hurt or cost a lot because they do. So only use surgery as a last resort.
