In the last two decades the major diseases have been the result of a sedentary lifestyle. Diabetes is one such lifestyle disease that has been the outcome of this sedentary lifestyle. Avandia is an oral drug used to treat diabetes. This drug is mainly used in the treatment of Type II Diabetes.
Avandia is the trade name of the generic drug Rosiglitazone, which helps in reducing the blood sugar levels. This belongs to the category of drugs called thiazolidinediones. Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas which helps in controlling the blood sugar levels in the body. People suffering from Type II diabetes cannot secrete enough insulin; as a result the glucose in the body is retained and not removed.
Avandia acts as a sensitizer known as insulin sensitizer; it attaches itself to the insulin receptors making them more responsive to the glucose molecules and hence helps in reducing the blood glucose levels. For this drug to work there must be production of at least a little quantity of insulin by the beta cells of the pancreas.
Avandia is a prescription drug and works fine when combined with proper diet and daily exercise. People taking this drug should keep a check on their smoking and drinking habits. This drug needs to be taken only when suggested by the physician.
The side effects of this drug include headache, back pain, fatigue, hyperglycemia, diarrhoea. In event of any side effects or allergies the doctor or the physician must be notified without any delay. The doctor should be consulted before taking or stopping this drug as suddenly stopping this drug may give rise to some side effects and associated health risks. In case of a missed or a skipped dosage care should be taken to see that the dosage is not doubled up.
