Dealing with Your Children's Fear and Forgetfulness

Fears
Everyone has some fears, which might be dealt ridiculously by others at times. But its fact, each person has in one way or another some secret fears. For instance, few people afraid of height, other afraid of confined places, some afraid of water and so on. One should be aware of the fact that as long as the intensity of the fear is less it is allowed, but at times these fears turn into phobias, which can be a great threat for one's day to day life.
Fears are also common in children, but they are different for different ages. For instance, loud noises, ambulance sirens, electric machines, dogs or cats may be the fear factor for a three year old child. But for six year old child the fearing factor may be dark, monsters, ghosts, falling and so on. Similarly, if we go further up towards a ten year old child, he might be afraid of looking foolish, speaking in front of other fellows, or school failures.
Sometimes, the excessive warnings from parents about road safety, home security, stranger danger and other such things may have an impact on child's mind. Child minds are very sensitive and they perceive and decode every message very deeply. So, what they hear and what they see in their daily routines can be a cause of fear having burglar, injury or kidnapping etc.
Miscommunication with you child can be a cause of particular fear. Like grandma died of heart failure, but for parents it is easy to say she was having severe cold. Cold become a fear factor for child in this case.
The bigger fear for most of the children is going into the dark places or room. The simple way to help your child overcome this fear is to hold his hand and take him to the room, stand on the door and ask your child to go in. in start use dim lights, and reduce the power with the time as you see a positive change. An effort is needed from parents to make their child fearless.
Forgetfulness
It is often seen that the children forget things after placing them. Not all the children have same capability of mind. Some are sharp and others are simply not. Forgetfulness is not considered as the major issue, some memory jogs can spark the memory of your child. Forgetfulness is caused because the intelligence is not always connected to the center of organization and reliable memory.
What you need to do as a parent is to make your child cope with his or her forgetfulness. Ask your child to check the bag for right books and notebooks or reviving the list of the work plan for a day. What you can do is:
- Make a to do list for them
- Writing reminder word on their hand can be useful
- To jog their memory, put the watch on wrong wrist
- Make a chart listing the important activities for a day or for an entire week and hang it on the wall or on a door. Ask them to check the list regularly.
