Caravan Holidays In Southern England

Caravan Holidays In Southern England

The two counties along England's South coast that get the most visitors are Dorset

, and Kent. As a result, numerous caravan parks have sprung up in both areas over the years. The great British tradition of seaside holidays is a alive, well, and in the current economic climate it is actually growing. Many Caravan holiday parks are offering great advance booking deals, but, if you are thinking about making a booking, don't leave it too late, as spaces are going very quickly this year.

Dorset, with it's low population and almost Mediterranean feel is the choice for the holiday maker looking for a relaxed area to stay in, as outside of Dorchester, the county is just miles and miles of rolling countryside - so a lack of discos, but a plethora of things to do of the more natural variety. Kent, on the other hand is a bit more lively, but that doesn't mean that the countryside isn't worth a visit, as Kent is famed for being the garden of England.

There is a lot to see and do in both areas, so your choice may boil down to doing a bit of research on what is available in terms of places to stay, and what there is to do in the local area once you get there.

Dorset's main base for tourism is Weymouth, which is a beautiful fishing port that is worthy of at a least a day trip if you are in the area. It is an established tourist resort, so you know what to expect - fun for the kids, and a small hole in your pocket at the end of the day. You don't need to spend much to have a good time in Dorset though as it's average summer temperatures are among Britain's highest, so most people head off to a quiet cove for a dip in the ocean, and a bit of serious 'kicking back'. Much of the coastal area is a designated World Heritage site, due to it's geological formations. So as well as the crystal clear waters, you also get to enjoy some amazing rock formations, and although it isn't Britain's most southerly county, it is protected from Atlantic winds.Caravan Holidays In Southern England

Not known for it's castles, Dorset is home to the fabulous Sherborne Castle. It is one of Britain's 'vanity castles', built not to keep invaders out, but as a rather grander version of the of the old 'house in the country'. And Sir Walter Raleigh did really well, not only does it have 40 acres of beautiful landscaping, but the insides are crammed with a mix of styles and artifacts that have been collected over several hundred years, making the place a bit of a 'curio', and well worth a visit.

Further to the east, Kent has been a popular tourist destination since the turn of the nineteenth century. It's 'capital', Maidstone, is located inland and is worth a visit as it is very quaint considering it's size, and the river Medway which runs through it adds gives the town a continental feel.Caravan Holidays In Southern England

Along Kent's considerable coastline are many old favorites such as the Isle of Sheppey, which has five caravan holiday parks. The island is a real hub of activity, and the caravan parks located there are used to catering for visiting families. Facilities at most of them are very family orientated, which means that there is plenty to do with, and without the children. Holiday parks these days are very focussed on providing activities for children which they really do enjoy, so that the next day it doesn't take too much of a shove to get them back out to the kid's club, and then back to bed for you, or a swim in the ocean.

Out and about in Kent, there are many things to see and do, including a visit to Canterbury Cathedral, and a visit to Dover Castle. For a bit of fun, Hythe has the world's smallest railway, which is a wonderful spectacle for the kids - it might not be 'Thomas the tank engine', but the kids will love it just the same.

Whichever county you choose, a holiday in the south of England is going to benefit from the southerly climate, all you have to do is make sure that you choose well from one of the many caravan parks in the area. Before you go have a little read around and find out what is going on in the area as well, so that you can make the most of your stay.
