Caravan Holidays In Yorkshire And Scotland

Caravan Holidays In Yorkshire And Scotland

The North of Britain is an area of stunning landscapes

. Yorkshire and Scotland are both renowned for their outstanding natural beauty. What many people don't realize is that although inland the countryside offers many opportunities for the visitor, both Scotland and Yorkshire have long, and pristine coastlines.

Yorkshire is known for many things; heavy industry, yorkshire puddings, flat caps and more. There's a saying, "It's grim up north", and although this saying really arose as a comment on the harsh working conditions and heavy pollution of the industrial revolution, these days it couldn't be further from the truth. "It's stunning up north" would be more appropriate.

Yorkshire is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in England. Unfortunately the word is out, so my advice is to get up there, before it becomes truly over-run with tourists. The countryside is so vast that 'getting away from it all' is usually a mere five minute drive away. If you are seeking the bright lights and the sun and sand they are there as well - in spades, so you do have the option of mixing peace and quiet, and a bit of hectic frivolity into your holiday.

When you decide that you want to get out of your caravan park, there is plenty to see and do in Yorkshire. Of course there is the city of York itself which has a long and rich history which is reflected in it's architecture. The York 'Dungeon' is gruesome trek through history that is both fun and interesting for all the family. Outdoors, there is the Lightwater Valley Theme Park with plenty of rides and amusements, and if you haven't been o a steam train before, then the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a must, and you can get off and back on along the way to visit some of the quaint villages. Scotland's main 'problem' is that it is so far up north, and has a reputation for being cold, so many people simply don't bother driving for those few extra hours to get there. They are missing out on the surprisingly crystal clear North Sea waters, and clean, empty, un-spoilt beaches. The irony of the situation is that because it is not a 'number 1' tourist destination in the UK, it remains underdeveloped. This is good news for the visitor, as although Scotland does cater for tourists, they haven't over-run the place, and so you will still receive a genuinely warm welcome from the locals.

Scotland is the ultimate getaway, there is so much to explore, and a caravan park makes the perfect base. Although there are more entertainment and activity focussed Holiday Parks about, Scotland has quite a few 'lodge style' parks, located in stunning surroundings, and short on entertainment. The theory behind these parks is that there is so much going on in the area, that they don't need to provide entertainment. If you are taking the children away for the vacation, and you would like some time to yourself then you should probably book into one of the larger holiday parks where you can drop the kids off at one of the children's entertainment and activity clubs for a few hours, and get some 'me time' for yourself. However, if you want to spend all your time with the kids, then one of the smaller parks is the ideal base from which to have a great load of fun, and help nurture your children's appreciation of the natural world.

It's hard to pinpoint what to see and do in Scotland, as there is so much in this vast area. One thing that you will never be too far away from is a castle, as many were built all over the region to keep out invaders. Edinburgh is a must if you are in that part of Scotland, it has become one of Europe's cultural capitals, there is a lot more to it than the castle, and it's fantastic botanical gardens. When you have decided which area you will be staying in, either ask the locals, or head to the nearest tourist information centre for some advice on what to see and do in the area.

Whether you choose Scotland or Yorkshire for a caravan holiday, you will be amazed at how beautiful the area is, and you will find yourself returning home and telling people "It' great up North".
