If you're looking for the perfect family holiday destination then take a trip to Mallorca and you'll never look back

. A great location for families it is one of many amongst the Balearic Islands, and its location in the Mediterranean Sea offers stunning scenery, great food, good weather all year round, and friendly locals.

Palma de Mallorca is the largest town on the island and has its own unique characteristics to appeal to tourists, but generally people arrive and head out to one of the popular beach resorts or hotels for their stay here. There is also a superb selection of villas and holiday homes to check out which can make more economical sense than booking a hotel, particularly if you are travelling with a group of friends or your family.

Villas in Mallorca are convenient for holidaymakers as they offer privacy, it also means your family are all under the same roof and not spread out over a number of rooms as they would be if staying in a hotel. Choose a villa situated right on the beach and there can be no better place to enjoy the beautiful views the island has to offer. If there are a number of you traveling then when it comes to comparing the total price of a villa with hotel accommodation, you really can't beat a private holiday home for your stay.

As a holiday destination Mallorca offers great value for money, coming from Europe the flight time is short, particularly important to consider if your family are younger and more inclined to get bored and restless during flights. Staying in a villa is a good chance to meet the locals and really get the flavor of the place, this can often be an opportunity missed when staying in large hotel chains or resorts. It also means that you can treat the place like home, chill out next to the pool all day, and eat when you like. As a villa can provide a lot more space than a hotel room, there's not as much need to be out all day or every night which will save you money.Bring Your Family to Mallorca by:Michiel Van Kets

Before you book your villa there are a few things you should check. First, ensure that the villa is child-friendly, if there are lots of expensive breakable items decorating the villa then this won't go well with young children running around bumping into everything! Also see if the pool is private or shared with the surrounding properties, some villas will have their very own private pool whilst other families might prefer a communal pool as it can be a good way to meet other young families to hang out with.

Mallorca offers lots of different activities for families with children. Check out Golf Fantasia in Palma Nova, the Museum of The Old Dolls in Palma is interesting for kids as it has the first Barbie dolls ever produced on show, and there are water parks at Aqualand Magaluf, Marineland in Portals, Western Water Park and Hidropark. As it is an island there are countless water based activities and great selection of water sports all over the island, as well as excursions in glass-bottomed boats, swimming and snorkeling. The first-rate road network also means you can take a family trip up into the winding, mountain roads and admire the breathtaking views.

Mallorca has lots of social events going on, especially in Palma, so hiring a car during your stay makes sense. Staying at a hotel, the only choice you have is to eat out every day which can work out very expensive when there are a few of you to feed. A villa has cooking facilities so gives you a choice, however then you'll need to think about transport to go shopping for water and groceries. Don't worry too much though, if you prefer not to hire a car most of the local towns have daily markets where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, and try out some of the local delicacies.
