Breakfast with Santa, Christmas carols, wreaths as big as your head, oh my! St. Louis definitely has some holiday events to be merry about! Here are the top festivities and events going on in December from an About.com Guide, near our communities that can be holiday fun for the whole family.

Deck the Halls Wreath Exhibit:Local floral designers are showing off their best work at the annual holiday wreath exhibit at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The wreaths are on display each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is included with the cost of Garden admission. You also have the chance to own one of the featured wreaths by making a bid during the silent auction. Proceeds from the auction benefit Garden programs.

Missouri Botanical Garden

Gardenland Express: It's all aboard for some holiday fun at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The Garden is kicking off its holiday season with its "Gardenland Express" annual flower and train show. The show features model trains that wind their way through a miniature landscape filled with winter scenes and surrounded by poinsettias and other flowering plants. The display is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Missouri Botanical Garden

Christmas Traditions Festival: Celebrate Christmas the old-fashioned way on Main Street in historic St. Charles. You'll see carolers and beautiful decorations every weekend as you make your way down Main Street. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays shops and restaurants stay open until 9 p.m. to accommodate holiday shoppers.

Santa vs. the Snowman: Alien vs. Predator. Freddy vs. Jason. Now there's Santa vs. the Snowman, and you can catch it on the ultimate big screen, the OMNIMAX Theater at the St. Louis Science Center. Luckily this holiday tale is lighthearted and suitable for kids. It tells the story of a curious snowman who challenges Santa and his workshop for control of the Christmas gift delivery business. Tickets are $9 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. Special group discounts are also available.

Christmas at the Fabulous Fox: The Fox Theatre is celebrating the holidays with some great Christmas shows. The Joffrey Ballet will dance The Nutcracker in early December. There are also performances of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, Christmas music from Mannheim Steamroller, and the new musical Cirque Dreams Holidaze. Tickets for the shows range from $18 to $75.

Fox Theatre

Three Chances to Have Breakfast with Santa: St. Louis area children are invited to dine with Santa this holiday season. The St. Louis Zoo, Magic House and Eckert's Orchards are all hosting Breakfast with Santa. Prices vary for each event, but they all include a meal, treats for the kids and pictures with Santa himself.

Christmas Carols in the Garden: The Missouri Botanical Garden is a beautiful sight any time of the year, but during the holidays you can also enjoy the sounds of the season during Christmas Carols in the Garden. Musicians will perform throughout the Garden while visitors sip mulled cider and hot chocolate. There's also a special visit from Santa. Admission is free with the purchase of a regular Garden ticket.

Symphony Holiday Concerts: The St. Louis Symphony is celebrating the holidays with a series of special concerts, beginning December 11, with Michael W. Smith. You can also enjoy some of the best songs of the season at A Gospel Christmas featuring Wintley Phipps and the Symphony's IN UNISON Chorus, and the Symphony's Holiday Celebration concerts featuring favorite carols and holiday classics.
