Shatabdi Express trains in Indian Railways are the series of high speed trains

. This fast moving train connects well to the various important cities of the country. There are many tourist places and business centres which the passengers can easily reach by Shatabdi Express. This train runs during the day time and returns back to its origin the same day.

Shatabdis are among the fastest trains of the country and their possession is the matter of pride for Indian Railways. Another fast train Rajdhani runs at long distances and connects the National Capital Territory to other cities, whereas Shatabdi runs only to short distances and medium distances. Both these trains have the regular speed of 100-140 km/hr. The Bhopal Shatabdi Express which was introduced in the year 2001 runs at a speed of 150 km/hr; it is thus the fastest train of India.

Shatabdi is a Sanskrit word which means centenary in English. It was in the year 1988 that the first Shatabdi Train was started, this new beginning was made to commemorate the birth centenary of out honourable Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. The train began its journey from New Delhi to Gwalior and was later extended to Jhansi. The train gradually started covering the distance up to Bhopal and was known as Bhopal Shatabdi Express. This is the fastest train in India which runs at the speed of about 95 km/hr. The speed of this train increases to 150 km/hr between some parts of Agra and New Delhi stations.

There are certain advantages which the travellers can get only in Shatabdi Express as this train usually stops at platform number 1 at most of the stations. Jan-Shatabdi Express is the lower priced version of Shatabdi Express which is quiet reasonable and promises comfortable journey to the travellers but the train is without air-conditioner. Another variant of this express is Swarna Shatabdi Express which is the most luxuriant train possessed by Indian Railways.

Garib Rath The Chariot of Poor was introduced by Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav, this train which offers its services at reasonable rates is centrally A.C and can well combat the dust and heat of India. Shatabdi Express had to face lots of criticism because of its luxuries which it is offering in this poor country. There are various facilities offered to the travellers in the train like coffee or tea, snacks, breakfast, meals and a bottle of mineral water.
