Train To Kashmir Hits The Highway

All ready to guzzle in Kashmir's mesmerizing scenery and to experience the hilly

tack of Kashmir in a train in snowy February 2007, the primary trial train to Kashmir started off for the Valley not on conventional tracks but on the 300 km-long Jammu-Srinagar national main road, adding together an additional significant episode to the Rs 4,700 crore Jammu-Udhampur-Qazigund-Srinagar-Baramulla national railing plan.

It is an adding up of a further division to an account of Indian Railways and Kashmir's national rail plan, as the first examination of diesel movable coach left for Kashmir's Budgam railway terminal by opting a road route and not a train trail from Jammu railway station.

Almost immediately after the 36-wheeled train drawn by a 460 HP extraordinary engine started moving up the Jammu-Srinagar highway at 0700 hours ,It seems unbelievable, but the train is moving on the highway from Jammu to Badgam through Srinagar. It has taken place for the first time in the history of the Indian Railways that a DMU has scampered on a road.

Numerous Pujas were performed to mark the auspicious occasion in the history of Indian Railways. The train fitted with nearly 36 big truck wheels moved through crisscrossed roads as all the population around witnessed as the train moved on the highway with the trucks and buses on the sides. Hit by surprise as the train zigzagged through the highway, bystanders on roads, in buses and from dwellings crowded the road all around and stood astonished and flabbergasted. The sole difference in these trains is that they are fitted not with regular iron wheels but with unusual truck tyres that do not need tracks to move on. It was perhaps one of the most unfamiliar sight and the people of Kashmir were absolutely zapped. Train To Kashmir Hits The Highway

Such an exhibition is an uncommon achievement of engineering, has become a reality as first of 24 coaches moved for Budgam railway terminal in central Kashmir. It was made probable by substitute iron wheels of the coaches with truck tyres, which will be drawn by a trailer-truck comprising 460 HP specifically planned engine.

Considering himself as a man on foot into the record of Indian Railways and Kashmir rail development, driver of the train Joginder Singh was a contented and swollen with pride . Coming from Bihar's Fazipora region, Singh said, "I have done Indian Railways pompous by moving a most priceless present to Kashmiris."
