Green Day Tickets - Green Day Recording Live Album On Tour
Rock band Green Day released its first official live album
, Bullet in a Bible, in 2005, and MTV News reports that singer Billie Joe Armstrong &. Co. are already recording their next live album. During a tour stop in Denver, Colo. on Aug.28, Armstrong told the crowd at the Comfort Dental Amphitheater, "Hey, I just want to tell you something right now. We're recording a live f***ing album right now. So check it out, we're gonna play a brand-new song...It ain't that brand-new. This song is called 'Cigarettes and Valentines.'"The veteran punk trio recorded "Cigarettes and Valentines" while working on the follow-up to the 2002 B-sides compilation Shenanigans (for an album with the same title) in 2003, but it was never released because the master tapes for the project were stolen from the studio. Green Day scrapped plans to release a follow-up to Shenanigans and released American Idiot (which has since been transformed into a hit Broadway musical) instead, so there are likely no hard feelings!
Green Day has only released one new studio effort since Bullet in a Bible, 2009's 21st Century Breakdown. There is no word yet on when the trio's as-yet-untitled live album will be released, although Green Day has tour dates lined up through the end of the month. Fans can get Green Day tickets to see Armstrong and bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool throughout North America.
The band made a stop in Chicago to perform at this year's Lollapalooza while on tour, headlining the second day of the Windy City music festival on Aug. 7. Billboard.com reports that during their two-and-a-half-hour set, Green Day performed career-spanning hits like "Brain Stew," "Hitchin'' a Ride" and "When I Come Around" along with songs off their most recent albums, 2004's American Idiot and 2009's 21st Century Breakdown.
21st Century Breakdown may be Green Day's most recent album, and why the band is on tour, but American Idiot is still going strong on Broadway. The hit musical based on Green Day's rock opera also won a pair of Tony Awards in early 2010. Although American Idiot lost out to Memphis in the Best Music category, the musical did walk away with Tonys for Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design. Directed by Michael Mayer, the Tony Award-winning director of Spring Awakening, American Idiot is also helmed by Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett and two-time Tony Award-winning composer and orchestrator Tom Kitt.
Although the band was on hand to perform at the Tony Awards, the cast of the Green Day musical was on its own during a recent AOL Sessions taping. The cast of American Idiot performed the musical arrangements of "American Idiot," "Are We the Waiting," "Last Night on Earth,"
"Letterbomb," "Whatsername" and "Good Riddance" with a full backing band, reports punknews.org.
American Idiot follows a new generation of American struggling to navigate their way in a post-9/11 world and features every song from Green Day's two-time Grammy winning album of the same name.
