4 Things To Do In The Lake District This Summer

4 Things To Do In The Lake District This Summer

Heard about the beauty of the Lake District and planning a holiday but not sure what

exactly there is to do? Take a look through the following 4 points and you'll soon start to wonder just how you're going to fit everything into your break to one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

1. Go walking - one of the primary reasons why people visit the Lake District is to take in the astounding natural beauty by spending their days walking and hiking around the largest National Park in the country.

Whilst it's understandable to think that to walk in the area you're going to have to be a seasoned walker with all of the necessary equipment, whilst a good pair of walking boots is always recommended, there are routes and tracks for everyone.

This is not to say that the area isn't suited to regular and advanced walkers. For example, if you're feeling adventurous, why not climb Scafell Pike? At 3,209 feet tall, it's the highest peak in England and requires a lot of determination and knowledge to climb effectively, but the views from the top are well worth it. 4 Things To Do In The Lake District This Summer

2. Try fishing - when you head to the Lake District, the first thing you'll notice - aside from the masses of rolling hills - will be the vast amount of lakes. Divided up into around 100 individual areas of water, they vary considerably in size, from the largest, Windermere, which covers 5.7 square miles through to the smallest which is Blelham Tarn.

Whilst there are some rules and stipulations on fishing, check with the locals in the area and any official guidelines that are set and you'll be able to enjoy some absolutely fantastic fishing on your holiday to the Lake District.

3. Head to Beatrix Potter's house - arguably one of the most loved children's authors of all time, Beatrix Potter lit up the lives of many children with her stories of Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck.

Located near Hawkshead, the house known as Hill Top is part of the National Trust and is available for anyone to visit the year round, allowing you to take in the atmosphere and landscapes of the surrounding area and understand just what inspired some of the most well known children's stories of all time.

4. Become a foodie - when you think of the Lake District, it's easy to think of traditional home cooked food rather than upmarket eateries. The masses of rolling hills and mountains and serene atmosphere lend themselves perfectly to the somewhat stereotypical view of a stay-at-home-mother who's spent all day baking a pie for her family.

Whilst there are no doubt several stay-at-home-mothers that do this who live in the Lake District, there are several fantastic places to eat if you're looking to sample some top class cuisine.

Take l'enclume as an example. A great hotel as well as a superb place to dine, l'enclume is ran by the Michelin starred chef Simon Rogan and according to their official website, since opening in 2002 it has received a whole host of awards and is now regarded as "one of the most celebrated and avant garde restaurants in the country".
