Your first step is to pick a date. When planning a party with a short lead-time, it is particularly important to do your reconnaissance to find out competing events to which your guests have already committed.
If your preferred date conflicts with previous commitments of others, you have some choices: accept that your party will be smaller than you originally intended or find another date. When considering dates, do not rule out the first few days of November - this buys a little more breathing room.

Utilize such fruits and vegetables in your menu as apples, pumpkins and the many squashes that are available. Another plus, in-season foods are budget-friendly.
Treats and desserts can pick up on the theme also; consider including staples such as candy corn and Halloween decorated cupcakes.
