Christmas Hampers - Fun And Practical Gifts
Don't you just love receiving a decorative Christmas hamper
? There are oodles of options when choosing them as gifts for your friends, relatives, and co-workers at Christmas time. While shopping, I love browsing the aisles that contain these colourful hampers, and will make my choices months in advance of the holiday season, so I won't be disappointed and find them already gone later on.A personal gift favourite of mine, is a colourfully woven basket containing a bottle of good wine, biscuits, and cheese. I can picture my recipient sharing it during a romantic evening before a warm fire. And when the compliments do come in, they may say that is exactly what happened!
There are several different ways to shop for these Christmas hampers. Personally, I prefer to select from the huge selection available over the Internet, as I love shopping online, and appreciate avoiding the crowds of shoppers during the busiest shopping time of the year.
These fine hampers can be found in most department stores, discount shops, and gift shops year round, but the selection is usually at its best, just before Christmas each year. Choosing can be the only difficult part when shopping for these items. There are ranges of hampers for children, which include small toys and some candies or other sweet treats. There are gift baskets that are stuffed full of sausage and crackers and perhaps several assorted types of cheese. Also peanuts, chips, soda crackers, and cookies may be packaged inside. The choices seem endless and usually prove appealing to all of your gift recipients.
Reminiscent of a very large Easter basket that comes filled with candy eggs and chocolates, these hampers have a festive appeal about them that brings out the kid in each of us. Usually made from a wicker material, these decorative baskets are most practical for later use as a breadbasket, or to hold just about any items that will fit in it, in any room of the house.
I have them around my home, serving a range of purposes; one of them even sits on top of the bedroom dresser holding my husband's socks. It is difficult to throw them away because they are so practical and useful.
Hampers seem to have originated in the U.K. and are mostly made from wicker and sometimes are quite large. The primary use for them is to transport items, such as laundry or food (think picnic basket).
One very appealing Christmas hamper that I found recently, contains a cookbook, a bottle of bubbly apple juice (non-alcoholic) and an assortment of cheeses, sausages, and tiny bite sized crackers. The wicker basket itself was nearly a work of art with multiple colours interwoven in a unique design that made it very durable and solid. This came home with me, and I will decide later on just who to give it to, as a holiday gift. It might just be myself, and I will be most grateful for the fine present.
