On the other hand, a modern grandfather clock or the reproduction does not need to be wound. When a time will come that you need to replace its battery, you only have to do it without any adjustments on the mechanical system. It is not as expensive as the antique clock.
If you are buying an antique, ensure that all the components are intact and still functional. Double-check on the clock especially if it comes from a century earlier. There may be some part missing.
