Vanilla Perfume Review: Best Pure Vanilla Fragrances
What is the best vanilla perfume? Depends on who you ask
. The answers fall into two general categories: the people who love the edible, more pure vanilla scents, and people who like complex perfumes with strong vanilla notes. In this article, we'll explore the more pure vanilla fragrances -- ones that actually smell like vanilla, not just have vanilla in them. Hopefully, you'll be able to find at least one that perfectly suits you.
*Coty's Vanilla Fields & Vanilla Musk*
These 90's fragrances are still popular today. Both of them were designed to have immense mass appeal, and they did this quite successfully! Anyone can, and does, wear them. Vanilla Fields is a soft combination of vanilla and jasmine -- sweetly floral, but not as dessert-like as others on this list. Vanilla Musk is a more dry vanilla and sandalwood blend containing the usual suspects of musk and cedar. There are two versions of Vanilla Musk, a men's and a women's. The men's is slightly dryer but can definitely be worn by women who prefer a less-sweet vanilla.
Both of these Coty vanilla fragrances are soft, subtle, and safe. Before there was Bath and Body Works, these drugstore scents were many teens' fragrances of choice. They were extremely popular for gifts in the 90's for women of all ages, and they are still worn by many. The drawback to both Vanilla Fields and Vanilla Musk is that they are fairly weak in scent, less than eau de toilette strength. However, they are quite inexpensive, and you get a fair amount of bang for your buck.
*Warm Vanilla Sugar (Bath and Body Works)*
This nontraditional vanilla perfume from Bath and Body Works is creamy and seductive. Sweet, sexy, and just complex enough to please more than teenagers, Warm Vanilla Sugar combines brown sugar, a rich buttery vanilla, musk, and clean florals to take it just past one pure vanilla note.
This is a very well done fragrance, and there is a reason it appears on many vanilla lover's best-of lists. Like all BBW scents, it isn't "perfumey." The florals are present to dry it out. If you're looking for a warm, rich, but still pure vanilla, Warm Vanilla Sugar should be your first stop.
If you want a simple vanilla fragrance tempered by something else, Bath and Body Works has several vanilla fusions. Try Lavender Vanilla, Black Currant Vanilla, or Jasmine Vanilla.
*Vanilla Lace (Victoria's Secret)*
Victoria's Secret Vanilla Lace is a real perfume -- simple, but not a one-note focus like the previous two. Vanilla Lace is more intoxicating than sweet, with lemon, obvious florals, and none of the coconut or butter notes. It's obviously more grown up than Warm Vanilla Sugar, which is no surprise, since Victoria's Secret's image is more mature than Bath and Body Works.
Vanilla Lace is very much predominantly-vanilla fragrance, but that's not all there is to the scent. It's classy, easy to wear, and appropriate for both daytime and evening use. Like many Victoria's Secret perfumes, it sits in the middle between simple bath and body fragrances and complex perfumes.
*Vanille Abricot (sometimes spelled Vanille Apricot) by Comptoir Sud Pacifique*
While this list is supposed to be about more pure vanilla perfumes, Vanille Abricot is so amazing that I had to list it. It appears on many people's best-of for being just awesome -- if you like fruity fragrances, that is. The vanilla is Tahitian vanilla, more roundly aromatic than a typical bakery-type vanilla, and it is made both sensual and sunny by the addition of fresh and fruity apricot, papaya, and other notes.
Vanille Abricot is reported to be both beloved by children and a man-magnet! It's easy, romantic, grown-up, and relaxing all in one. There is nothing quite like it, and it is well worth the extra dollars per bottle that it costs compared to the other ones on this list.
