Understanding Facebook Marketing and Teenagers
In the world today there are over four hundred million people on Facebook and eleven million are teenagers between the ages of thirteen and seventeen
. Of course there are adults on there as well, mostly to sell their products or to keep up with their kids. This is world wide, and teenagers can not seem to get enough of Facebook. Some claim it is their lifeline to the outside world. They can travel to far off places and meet new people outside of their own culture.
As Facebook marketing started out at Harvard for college students it soon went out to the general public and teenagers fell in love with the concept. They know that using something like Facebook marketing will keep them in touch with their friends and family. Many companies know the Facebook marketing will get to teenagers and are advertising on its pages. Companies will put puzzles or quizzes out there for the teenagers to play or solve. Each time someone plays them it goes to the company and probably they will buy something, making mom and dad pay for it.
Companies using the Facebook marketing with the teenagers tend to have more business especially locally. Teens love to go places after school, usually to grab a hamburger ice cream, they text their friends to meet them where they are. There is now more money coming in for the company.
There are many parents that are quite doubtful that Facebook marketing tactics and teenagers is safe. Being in a world of perverts how do they keep their kids safe. So many teenagers want on Facebook it can be a bit scary. Since teenagers put up almost everything on their Facebook pages, anyone can look them up and harasses them. Even if they have their pages set on private, one can still see the actual page. Teenagers can only be seen and all of their information read only if they are plugged into certain networks. Such as their high school, church, or other places they want to be seen.
Every generation of teenagers since the start of man have to have a place to go, to scream, yell chew out their parents and just vent. Facebook marketing knew that and got on the band wagon. Hanging out with their friends from school does not work anymore. Teenagers today need more than that. On Facebook these teenagers can be themselves or maybe someone else. They can be open about their troubles and what they are thinking without an adult telling them what to think.
Facebook tells everyone to be careful on what they put on their pages. Many are just there to have fun; they decorate their pages with silly things, stars, battle ships, wild and crazy colors, sparkles etc. teenagers today are under a lot of pressure and they do need a place to vent and Facebook is the place for them. So parents, you can monitor their pages on Facebook but let them have fun.
