Tips For Easy Automotive Maintenance

A car's motor is a delicate engine with moving parts and sensitive wiring

. If you neglect that finely tuned assemblage of parts, your car's engine will stop functioning. Period. Unfortunately, there is no way around it and even more unfortunate is the fact that many of us have had to learn the hard way. Doing the little things that matter could save us all a lot of time and money. Keeping you car's engine running requires regular and careful maintenance. Once you start neglecting, you will begin experience problems.

Even the least mechanically-inclined person can keep their car in good shape by educating themselves about the car they drive. The cost of a major auto repair is a large price to pay for a little self-imposed ignorance. Knowing when your car needs certain types of maintenance will go a long way in preventing major breakdowns and repair. So what can you do to keep your car running as long as possible?

The first and most important thing you can do is educate yourself about your car's service schedule. Every vehicle is different. Take a look at your owner's manual. It contains a lot of very useful information but most people disregard it and just let it gather dust in the glove box. Most vehicle owner's manuals list a suggested auto service schedule for your car. This might include small things like oil and lube changes and will also include major scheduled maintenance like the best time for your timing belt replacement.

The most obvious way to maintain your car is to check your car's fluids and tire pressure on a regular basis. Even the most mechanically-inept person can check their oil levels, the most important fluid in your engine.. The best time to check is when the engine is cool. Get out your rag, pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, re-insert it, and check the oil level on the dipstick. Other things like the radiator overflow reservoir, the brake cylinder reservoir, and the power steering fluid should be checked too. But if you aren't sure where those are, don't sweat it. Just take your car into your trusted auto repair shop every three thousand miles and they'll do it for you. Tips For Easy Automotive Maintenance

Another easy way to keep your car going strong is to give it some time to warm up after you start the engine. A cold engine will have no oil on its moving parts. After about five hours it seeps back down into the oil pan. Give a few minutes after start up for your oil pump to lubricate the engine.

Little steps like this are easy to do and will give your car a better chance of surviving for a longer period of time.
