A teenage boy had been apprehended after being followed by police for around eleven
miles on the M6 before being caught by police, he was speeding at levels reaching 100 mph. The teenager has now been sent to a young offender's institution where he will remain for eight months.
The eighteen year old admitted to charges of aggravated vehicle taking, drink driving and driving without a licence in court after the September the 19th events.
The Court heard of how the teenager lied to police after they saw him driving on the M6 near junction 17 before following him and matching his path and speeds throughout the chase. The case went to Stoke on Trent Crown Court.
The prosecution Fiona Cortese has said of the case, : "The defendant pulled into Sandbach services. He then reversed at high speed, spinning the wheels, and drove off.
"His speed increased to 90mph at Keele services and officers matching his speed reached 100mph."
The teenager was caught by police when he exited the motorway. It was then that police were able to carry out a breathalyser test on him which gave results of 55mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.
The teenager also admitted to the other charges of driving without a licence or insurance and aggravated vehicle taking that he had committed in a different incident. He took a family member's S-Type Jaguar without consent back in February in a similar incident which saw him driving at speeds of 80 mph on the wrong side of the road.
Finally the teenager pulled into a car park of a pub before texting the family member to apologise for his actions.
His defence lawyer Jason Holt had this to say, '"He was on bail for the first offence when he committed the second and accepts a custodial sentence is inevitable."
The judge felt that a custodial sentence was the only option given the circumstances.
