Soap On A Rope Is Great Summer Fun!

Soap On A Rope Is Great Summer Fun!

Soap on a rope is great for those summer camping trips as it keeps your soap out of the dirt

. At home, hanging your soap prevents those slimy soap messes in the soap dish. When you lose your soap in the tub, it's easier to find and catch with a rope attached.

Making soap on a rope isn't much different that regular soap making, and the finished product is lots of fun! If you are experienced at soap making, just follow your favorite recipe like you would normally do. You will also need about 18 inches of rope.

If you aren't experienced at soap making, the easiest way is to use melt and pour soap, adding fragrance if you like. If you have a double sided soap mold, snap it together and then push the ends of your rope down into the hole so the rope is about halfway into the mold and secure the whole thing with rubber bands. Pour your soap into the hole to fill the mold, and over fill slightly as the rope will absorb some of the soap.

With a one sided mold, begin your soap making as your recipe directs, then fill your mold about half full of the liquid soap. Let it set up a few minutes to form a film, then lay the ends of your rope on the soft soap, positioning them to be about half way into the finished soap. Pour the rest of your soap over the top of the rope, making sure the rope doesn't float.

Place your soap where it won't be disturbed. Let it harden as you normally do before removing it from the mold. Remove the soap from the mold, and you have soap on a rope!

You can also make soap on a rope from a bar of soap, molding it with your hands. First turn the soap into soap flakes by grating it or using a food processor. Add enough water to make a dough and knead it with your hand. For 3 cups of soap flakes it takes about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water.

Tie a knot in the ends of your rope to hold them together. Put a few drops of vegetable oil on your hands so the soap dough won't stick so much. Form a ball out of your soap dough and push your knotted rope down into the ball about half way.

You can shape your ball of soap dough using your hands to create different shapes. Set your completed soap where it can dry undisturbed for at least 8 hours until it is completely hardened. You now have your own soap on a rope creation!
