Puzzled at the Petrol Pump 5 Way to reduce your petrol costs

Once again stark warnings that petrol prices could rocket are ringing in the ears of the Great British public who are already trying desperately to cope amid what seems to be an ever increasing cost of living.

So for those of you who are being driven around the bend wondering how you are going to cope with these increases, take a quick pit stop to read our 5 petrol pump tips and keep your car and your finances ticking over nicely

Tip 1: Choose wiselyPuzzled at the Petrol Pump – 5 Way to reduce your petrol costs

It's so obvious that it almost goes without saying, but it's so important that we just can't help say it. Don't pull up at the closest petrol station to you and fill up unless it is the cheapest. The differences in the prices being charged by each petrol station near you may seem small, but over the month and year they can add up to a significant amount. So keep an eye out on the prices of each petrol station near to you, no doubt you will be driving past them at some point in your week so take the time to notice them. Also remember to plan ahead so that you don't end up filling up at a petrol station your near just because you're running low on fuel.

Tip 2: Change your driving style

Most of us don't pay much attention to the way in which we drive as long as we are driving safely, but believe it or not it can make a big difference to the amount of petrol you car needs. Driving slower and using higher gears as quickly as possible are proven to reduce fuel consumption as is driving with your windows rolled up and only using your air conditioning when necessary

Tip 3: Look after your car, look after your finances

If your car is not running to full efficiency it will use more fuel. Getting your car serviced could also mean a reduction in your petrol costs. Also pay attention to the simple things like whether your tyres need inflating or even changing as this also makes a huge difference.

Tip 4: Get rid of excess baggage

The heavier the load your car has to transport, the more fuel it will consume. Many of us store things in our car boot that simply don't need to need there. So do yourself and your finances a favour and get rid of any extra weight that your car is carrying

Tip 5: Avoid short distance driving or multiple journeys

Many of us will take the car to the local shops when we could so easily walk without even thinking twice about it. Many of us are also guilty of having to make multiple choices to the supermarket or to other places because we are badly organised. Before you take the car anywhere stop and think about whether you could walk instead. Also, take a minute to consider what you need to bring home with you or what you need to achieve while you are there before you set off anywhere. By staying organised you can avoid having to make the same journey twice
