Nfl Tickets - Brett Favre Contemplates Third Retirement

The third time might be a charm for Brett Favre

. The 40-year-old quarterback has given the Minnesota Vikings a scare, going public with his contemplation of retirement from the National Football League. While nothing has been settled yet, Favre announced he would retire if his surgically repaired ankle doesn't fully heal before the regular season, selling himself just short of 20 years at the pro level. Favre's announcement to possibly retire is his third of the same kind in three years, but this time with an ankle injury lingering the future Hall of Famer could actually be done for good.

Though Favre Retirement 3.0 seems more realistic this year than it was last year when he "retired" from the New York Jets and also the year before when he "retired" from the Green Bay Packers, most Vikings fans still say they'll only believe the news when Favre isn't suited up for the Vikes' first game of the season this year.

Favre, a second-round pick in the 1991 NFL Draft for the Atlanta Falcons, became the face of the Green Bay Packers franchise in the '90s and '00s, playing for the Wisconsin team from 1992, when he was traded by the Falcons, until 2007, when he announced his retirement from the league. Favre's first retirement from the Packers in March 2008 proved a premature move, however, and he announced his return to the game in July 2008 only to be traded to the New York Jets for the 2008-09 NFL season.

The quarterback's one and only season with the Jets proved to be a bust, but following another retirement announcement in early 2009 Favre once again became the comeback king, joining the Minnesota Vikings in August 2009. Favre's run with the Vikings last season was arguably his best career year in the league. He finished the season with 4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a quarterback rating of 107.2, leading the Vikings to an NFC North championship and successive conference championship game, where Minnesota fell just short of a Super Bowl berth in overtime to the New Orleans Saints in the postseason.

Football analysts across the board believed Brett Favre would come back for one more rodeo this year, finishing out his 20th year in the league and leading the surge for the Vikings to stage retaliation against the New Orleans Saints for their playoff loss last season. Still, even with news circulating around the football realm that Favre is retiring yet again, No. 4 is still selling plenty of NFL tickets and will do so until his absence is physically seen from the sidelines during the regular season.

Should Favre's retirement stick this year, the Minnesota Vikings will take a big hit, resorting to either Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson as the team's new starting quarterback. While Favre has so far been absent from the Vikings' training camp, Jackson has taken more snaps and will likely be considered the starter for this season should Favre really been done. At this point, however, Brett Favre should still be considered a go for the 2010-11 season, even if rumors around the league suggest otherwise.
