With an ever expanding collection of toys, dolls and other wondrous collectibles

, the Penang Toy Museum is the lifes work of its owner Loh Lean Cheng, who has spent the last three decades searching for and stocking his museum full of the worlds most famous toys. Inspired by a trip to the London Toy and Model Museum early in life, the extensive repertoire of Loh Lean Chengs toys have earned two Malaysian records and the admiration of many a visitor. Ideally situated in the Jalan Tanjung Bungah district, this 650 square metre-space can be dubbed one of Penangs foremost attractions for the young and the young at heart.

Divided in to 12 sections, the Toy Museum mainly consists of a Chamber of Fantasy, Chamber of Horror, Chamber of Monsters, Chamber of Comic Book Heroes and a Cave of Dinosaurs in addition to a Hall of Beauties, Hall of Virtual Reality, Hall of Celebrities, Halls of Cartoons, Fields of Combat as well as a Hall of Rock Legends. The museum also houses an impressive Star Wars collection to engage the Trekker in us, while its most expensive acquisition on-site is the life-size Japanese 1.8m high Gundam robot.

Its walls adorned with decorative Egyptian motifs, the museum offers an interactive experience for visitors as the exhibition halls also provide sound effects and motion sensors which create a magical, otherworldly atmosphere in each section. Attracting nearly a thousand visitors daily, the museums most popular instalment is undoubtedly the Lord of the Rings exhibit and memorabilia from the Star Wars franchise. Comic book fans can also expect to find their favorite superheroes in the Chamber of Comic Book Heroes where Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Tarzan and The X Men are placed alongside Power Rangers and Fantastic Four figurines.

Famed cartoon characters and popular TV characters the likes of Barney, Bananas in Pyjamas and Garfield are also found here in addition to Winnie the Pooh, The Simpsons, Toy Story characters, the Ninja Turtles and, of course, the iconic Barbies. Areas devoted to Disney cartoons, movies and characters are also a common sight at the museum which also houses an impressive Doraemon collection.
