. Cairo is a very crowded city, but it holds an appealing fascination for visitors from all parts of the globe.Once you set foot in Cairo, the first thing you will notice is the noise. Everybody here seems to be shouting something, whether they are selling their wares or making opinions known to friends and neighbors. Just don't be surprised when you are charged fares that are two or three times more than what is charged to local residents. The best way to get around the problem is to befriend a local or learn a few words in the native language. Be sure to let taxi drivers know that you are aware of an overcharge. Many will back down and quote you a normal rate.
Be especially careful when crossing streets. Traffic regulations are not closely followed in Cairo and it is your job to protect yourself. If you want to get away from the heat, try the subway. Keep in mind that the first two cars of each train are reserved for women and children.
The pyramids are located just outside of Cairo. These famous constructions, along with the Sphinx in Giza and the stepped pyramid of Saqqara, are the main reasons so many people travel to Cairo each year. Once you are outside the city, the monuments are just a short drive away. Though time has not been kind to these magnificent ancient structures, they still manage to impress and amaze all who visit.
As mentioned above, there is more to Cairo than the pyramids. There are other fine sights to see in the Egyptian capital. The old city of Masr Edima is one such place, as are the churches Mari Girgis and Abu Sarga. Do you love museums? You may wish to spend a long afternoon exploring exhibits in the Coptic Museum and the Egyptian Museum.
For some great traditional shopping, there is no better recommendation than Khan il Khalili market. Here, you can purchase nice souvenirs and local merchandise. A traditional drink Egyptians enjoy on shopping breaks is "sahlab". This exotic drink is made of rice and coconut. Sip the tasty concoction while walking through the busy streets.
Many love the delectable taste of Egyptian food. If you do not want to try the traditional dishes, Cairo offers many places where you can buy a hamburger or enjoy a slice of pizza. However, your Cairo experience would not be complete without at least trying some of their delicious cuisine. Kusherie, taamiya, shawerma, and kunafa, are all very tasty dishes about which tourists rave.
