I got my Mizuno MX-25 iron set as soon as it appeared in the market. To be honest, Mizuno MX-25 irons are really sweet, soft clubs, and if you are upgrading from something less appealing, want to try forged clubs for the first time or simply switching brands, you should be pleased.
With the MizunoMX-25 iron, the Mizuno Product Development team took on the task of greatly improving upon the MX-23, Mizuno's #1 selling iron of all time. This feat was achieved by utilizing the new Grain Flow Forged 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel and engineering a wider, deeper, and longer H.E.M.I COG Pocket Cavity for the lowest and deepest center of gravity in a one piece forged iron. I was playing Pings for nearly 20 years, first a set of berrylium-copper Eye-2s and then a set of i-3s, and I liked them both. But the 3s were seven or eight years old, and I wanted something new. At first, everything I looked at, including the Mizunos, seemed off-putting -- TaylorMade, Cleveland, Callaways (which I once flirted with for six months between Ping sets). But once I got used to the idea of shinny clubs with a ferrule, Mizuno stood out both due to design, manufacturing (forged) and feel.
I've quickly adjusted to the look. Even after a month with the Mizunos, the matte finish on the Pings now seems odd. As a 14 handicap, I wasn't sure how much change I'd noticed. But it is true that you get a much 'softer' feel with these forged Mizunos, as compared to my cast Pings. On nicely struck shots, the ball just seems to jump off the club with -- unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a better word -- with a 'softer' feel. Altho' forged, the design is cavity back, more mass on the perimeter. (Mizuno Jpx A25 Iron Set) Perhaps they are a shade less forgiving than my Pings, but really a very little difference.
Even as a 14 handicapper, I don't see that I'm losing anything with a slightly, but only slightly, less forgiving club. I'm using Ping hybirds to replace my 3 and 4 irons, but I find no loss of distance with the Mizuno MX-25s in my irons.
They are really sweet clubs, as accurate and penetrating as your swing will allow, and if you are looking to give forged clubs a try, these are a great choice.
