Mining In Australia Needs More Workers

Mining In Australia Needs More Workers

For Australian working visa holders, there are a lot of places to look out for jobs in the country

. One of this is the state of Western Australia. Indeed, the countrys largest state is on the lookout for more workers in the last few months. And experts agreed that this trend will likely continue well into next year.

One of the biggest employers in the region is the mining industry. It should be noted that Western Australia is considered as the countrys central mining region, with all the resources located here. For one, much of the bauxite and aluminum ore that is exported from Australian actually comes from the region. And Western Australia also has a 15 percent share of the worlds iron ore production.

Because of the abundance of mineral resources in the state, the mining industry here has grown significantly. In the last few years alone, several companies have expanded their operations, including such giants as BHP Billiton.

This expansion now leads to a huge demand in workers to cope up with the industrys needs. But since Australia has a relatively small population, with an even smaller portion working in the mining industry, much of the worker demand will have to be brought in from overseas. Experts estimate that the state will need to get around 150,000 more workers each year to meet the demand Mining In Australia Needs More Workers

Of these, the biggest section in demand would be that of skilled workers. These skilled workers actually make up much of the labor force of the mining industry. A significant amount of skilled professionals would also be needed for vital sections of the industry. And aside from those directly employed by the industry, the mining boom is expected to generate more worker demands in related fields, such as manufacturing.

Because of this growing demand for workers, the Western Australian government has sought ways to attract more people from overseas to move in here. Just recently, the state government has signed up a deal with the federal government to grant around 6000 employee sponsorships to immigrant. Government officials said that they expect to attract more professionals through targeted migration efforts.

One the other hand, Western Australia is also aggressively participating in the Department of Immigration and Citizenships 457 visa program. The 457 visa allows companies to attract more temporary workers into the fold, as these are expected to be able to augment the influx of long term workers into the country. These are also expected to help in the further growth of the mining industry.
