St James's Park

St James's Park is London's oldest Royal Park. It is next to Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament and there are free concerts at weekends during the summer. One of the most popular sights are the pelicans on the lake.

Kensington Roof Gardens is London's equivalent of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Kensington Gardens

Kensington Gardens was originally part of Hyde Park and was bought by William III in 1689 so he could enjoy the clean air. He liked it so much he commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to build Kensington Palace so he could live here.

The park is popular with walkers and runners but other sports are discouraged so it can remain peaceful for all. Kensington Gardens opens from 6am and closes at dusk.

Hampstead Heath

Hampstead Heath, in north London, is London's largest ancient parkland. Hampstead Heath is huge (791 acres) and is great for pretending you're in the country. As well as large fields and meadows, the landscape includes ancient woodlands, Parliament Hill Lido, ponds, as well as Kenwood House, a former stately home you can visit for free.

Kenwood House

Kenwood House is on the north of Hampstead Heath and is a neoclassical mansion, maintained by English Heritage. In the summer, Kenwood House hosts popular lakeside concerts. Admission to the House is free and the cafe is a popular place for tea and cakes.

Regent's Park

Regent's Park was designed by John Nash in 1811. The Queen Mary's Rose Gardens were added in the 1930s and have more than 400 varieties of roses with wonderful names such as 'Lovely Lady' and 'Thinking of You'.
