Learn Child Abuse Discipline Techniques

One of the most talked about topics regarding child behavior in recent years has

centered upon "bullying" and the necessity to enact effectual child abuse discipline. This relates to child on child fighting that according to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry more than six million males and four million females are caught up in school fights beginning as early as preschool.

Preventing Violence Begins at an Early Age

Aggressive human behavior starts early in life where toddlers and pre-school children squabble about physical possession of anything, specifically favorite toys. Often this aggressive behavior is unintentionally rewarded when one child hits another to gain possession of a toy and the victim cries and backs off. This child gains satisfaction when obtaining the toy and believes aggressive action, is the answer toward getting their own way. If this type of behavior is not remedied at an infancy, the aggressor may continue to use aggression and violence to obtain everything the infant wants carrying this pattern through to their teens and adulthood.

What Parents Can Do Disciplining Children

Here are several tips that can be put into action to help deter one child from hitting another:

** Look for possible volatile situations and mediate before the hitting starts. Do this

at the first signs of your child becoming upset and frustrated

** If a child, or children, fight a good deal, supervise more closely

** Separate children immediately if one hits the other. Comfort the victim quickly

** If the aggressor is a one or two-year-old toddler, tell them "No hitting, hitting hurts."

** If the aggressor is a two or three-year-old youngster, tell them "I understand you are angry, but do not hit people because hitting hurts people. You do not want to hurt people. This helps begin teaching empathy to your child.

**Never, ever, ever spank, slap a hand or butt of a child who hits another. This will only reinforce aggressive behavior.

**Abstain from allowing siblings or playmates to pretend "acceptable" forms of fighting such as wrestling, mimicking martial arts and what might seem harmless in make-believe sword play.

**Never down play the instances of sibling fighting.

Hitting Reveals Other Challenges

If a child is frequently initiating hitting as either a problem solving activity or an emotional reaction to frustration, anger or non-satisfaction, it is a sign the child has additional issues and problems needing specialized child abuse discipline. The problem could be the child having a challenge controlling anger, may possibly be witnessing constant scenes of violence or is perhaps the victim of abuse at school, day care or even in the home.

Exposure to Violence Can Contribute to Behavior

Academy research reveals statistics pointing out that children exposed to violence at early ages who receive no discipline or behavior modification tend to carry this activity into adulthood. Reports reveal young persons who are regularly viewing violent and aggressive representations of life on television, videos, movies and games will act in a similar fashion.

If a young child has no exposure to the above but continually shows anti-social, aggressive behavior, you need to obtain advice from a mental health professional who is expert on this subject and can recommend child abuse discipline methods.
