Picnic In The Park With Your Kids

Picnic In The Park With Your Kids

"Saturday in the Park, I think it was the fourth of July." These opening words of

a very popular song symbolizes what many people think of as a fun filled memorable summer day. It doesn't necessarily have to be the fourth of July, but that is the most popular day to have a picnic with family or friends.

Picnics are for everyone and loved by all, and they can be planned for any time of the year. Although warm weather brings more people out for picnics, autumn picnics can be great fun. Depending on where you live, or your sense of adventure, you can create a new tradition of a picnic of the month. With each month you could have a theme. For many of us planning a themed picnic can be a bit intimidating. Family picnics don't have to be so hard if we can just relax, and let it all come together.

Keep it as simple as can be. You want this time to be fun for all, and that means you too. By choosing simple, finger foods such as deli meats, cheeses, breads, crackers and condiments you take the hassle out of cooking. You could bring along some baby carrots, and cut celery to round it out. A variety of seasonal fruit will make a great dessert and is also healthy. And don't forget the water, or your family's favorite beverage. Make sure you have some choices that your kids will enjoy.

Depending on the age of your children you can give them certain tasks. This will teach them planning skills, and if something is left out, they will remember it next time. Leaving something out for a picnic is usually not a major deal when it comes to family picnics. A few simple tasks for children might be:

*Make a list of what is needed for the picnic.

*Packing the items into the picnic basket, cooler, or box.

*Carrying the items to the car and then on arrival to the perfect picnic area.

*Help bring items back to the car and house.

After they have made their list, go over it and explain to them what is really needed and not needed on the list, and why. By involving them and giving them a little bit of responsibility they will enjoy the day even more. Responsibility gives kids a sense of belonging in the family, a feeling of being needed.

If you want to make it even easier, pick up some food that everyone enjoys and just head to the park for spur of the moment fun! The main thing is to have fun, relax and play. Picnics are a great inexpensive activity that will create memories that last a lifetime. Now go out there and have some fun!
