A New York Times article printed in 2008 reported that over 12 million people have
had laser eye treatment since 1995, the year that the surgery was first introduced in the U.S. The article also reported a 95% satisfaction rate among patients. It is becoming more and more popular, not only in the United States but all over the world. Before deciding on whether or not to have the surgery, it's important to know all of your facts. It is corrective surgery that improves your vision by using high frequency laser beams that treat defects or damage to the eye. It has proven effective for those with fluid accumulation, astigmatism, abnormal cornea, far-sightedness and near-sightedness.
There are two types of laser eye treatment that are used to correct vision: PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) and LASIK (Laser-Assisted InsituKeratomileusis.)
LASIK is done more frequently than PRK. The main difference between the two methods is how the cornea is exposed to the laser beam. PRK uses hands-on methods, and handles the cornea's top layer to ensure that the tissues on the inner side are exposed to the laser beam. In LASIK surgery, a small flap is made in the cornea's uppermost layer. Once the surgery is considered a success, the flap is folded back in order to protect the eye.
The success rate of laser eye treatment is in direct proportion to the surgeon's skills.
LASIK surgery is the preferred method among both surgeons and patients. There is no pain, or blood and full recovery can be achieved quickly. Eye drops may be prescribed to prevent the risk of infection.

Alternatively, you can ask your friends or family members if they or someone they know had successful eye surgery done in the past and would they mind recommending them to you? The Internet will also give you information on centres that are close to you.
This is one of those times, though that you may want to travel, if you know there is a good surgeon in another city. Your eyesight is well worth the travelling time and effort if you are going to be cared for by a skilled surgeon. It may cost you more but at least you will have good eyesight for many years to come and you won't have to worry about wearing glasses.
