With Halloween looming children will be expecting you to supply them with kids costumes for them to go out trick and treating
. There are many different options for you to consider that do not have to cost the earth.
For younger girls perhaps you can turn an outgrown old dressing up outfit into a frightening witch fairy! You can adapt it by adding a witch's hat, holding a toy cat and sticking fake warts onto their faces,
To make a really easy ghosts costume for either a boy or girl, cut down a sheet so they don't trip over it, make a hole in the centre for heads to go through and let them loose on the face paint!
You could turn the sheet outfit into something for bigger kids to wear by buying teeth for Dracula, broomsticks for witches, plastic bats and eye patches for dressing the costume up. These additional bits don't cost much money.
If you don't have the time to make a costume, you will be able to find complete costumes with all the extras for not very much money. They can sell out of stock very fast prior to Halloween so buy early.
It is easy to adapt boys normal clothes into costumes. Cut up old trousers so that they look scruffy and torn and do the same to an old shirt or t shirt. Capes can be bought or made. You can make a cape out of a clean black bin liner, or old dark sheet tied around their shoulders.
Children can have great fun painting their own faces, suggest ideas for them to implement, such as white with black eyes, maybe some fake blood drips. With teenage children they could dress up as characters from the very popular vampire movies of which they're plenty. Girls could go for a more Gothic look with black eyeliner and red lipstick.
