Installing metal roofing can add a lot of value to your home
. Especially if you live in a part of the country, that has snow and ice during the winter months. I own and operate a successful roofing company in Southern Maine, and we get a lot of telephone calls requesting an estimate for
metal or steel roofs. After 25 years in the roofing business, we have completed hundreds of metal roofing projects, and thousands of asphalt shingle jobs. We have seen an increase for steel or metal roofs, and homeowners are asking for products to help protect their home against ice dams. If you live in Maine, you know what an ice dam is. After we have a snow storm in Maine, the next day the snow begins to melt from the suns warmth then freezes during the evening. After several days you will have a layer of ice beginning to form along the eve which progressively grows up the roof. After this process begins water begins to work up under the shingles and comes into the home. Even with ice & water shield the water always wins. Until recently, all we could tell people to do is shovel your roof. We do shovel hundreds of roofs for our customers with our roof maintenance programs. Homeowners demanded more answers, so we began to research some other forms of de-icing systems. We are now working with a couple of different products, to help with melting ice dams from the eves and overhangs. We have found a new product which is a self-regulating heat cable, channeled into an aluminum panel which is designed for maximum heat transfer. Each panel is powder-coated with a durable finish that will best compliment the colors of your home. There are many panel colors to choose from. When mounted to your roof along the eaves and in valleys, the system is designed to eliminate ice and snow in those areas, keeping your home safer and reducing risk of interior water damage. We have noticed that the
cost for materials especially metal roofing has increased dramatically over the past 5 years. People still say that the "cost of the job is too much", and people will always say that everything cost too much. Every time I visit a home, and look at interior water damage caused by the buildup of snow and ice, we have to inform the homeowner of the cost. Then we add up the total cost of replacing a ceiling which includes removal and replacing all the wet insulation,and sheet rock then repaint the room that sustained the water-damage. You could have almost bought a new roof on your home, well at least half a roof. I have sold many roofing packages over the years, and have found many different ways to help against ice dams. The best thing you can do is insulate your home, using the proper ventilation pulling air from the eve's to the ridge which will help prevent the against ice dams.
