How to plan the perfect Christmas party
When it comes to planning a Christmas party, there's more to organise than simply finalising the guestlist. When it comes to booking party venues, London and other cities will fill up quickly so deciding on the location should be done months in advance.
The first thing to establish is the budget. This is the first Christmas of the economic recovery, so it's expected that businesses will spend more on parties than they did last year, but this must be decided before all other decisions are made.
You also need to decide on a theme for the party, and the type of party you want to throw, which will be dictated slightly by the location. Do you want to have a three course meal? Would you rather put some money behind a bar and have a later event? Keep in mind that if the people you work with are of a mixed age range, you should organised something that caters to everyone's tastes and not just one demographic.
Keeping the type of event in mind, you also need to determine a dress code for the party and communicate this with everyone. Should people dress up, or is it a casual event?
It's also important to communicate whether partners are invited and if so, whether they're welcome to join in with the whole festivities or after-drinks. Make sure they understand the dress code too.
Another decision that needs to be made is with regards to entertainment - do you need an entertainer? You could have a DJ, magicians or personalised drinks menus. It's really up to you, but make sure it fits in with the company's image.
Remember, the Christmas party is all about celebrating the hard work the team has put in over the past year, and improving relations between staff who don't work together.
It can also be a good time to find out what people think about the company, but be careful not to talk shop too much.
