Usually parents buy clothing for their children until the latter are fairly mature. There is no particular reason why younger children should not choose and even pay for their own wardrobe as long as they understand the process. Go on a Shopping Trip You can perhaps judge a child's clothing buying readiness even better by simply going shopping with them. While keeping watch on the child, ask them to select some items of clothing, try them on, and then decide if they would like to buy them. If they child selects appropriate clothes then you can be sure that the child is fairly ready to select clothes on a regular basis. You may even wish to give the child money and allow them to actually pay, keeping watch of course and assisting if necessary. Generally children as young as 5 to 7 will be able to handle this process if adequately instructed. If you don't feel they are ready, then as noted simply wait until they are older. But you may be surprised by how well a child is able to understand and perform their own wardrobe selection and purchase.
