Parents are often besieged by bad behavior children and do not realize that if they took preventive measures, then a lot of the problems such as temper tantrums and downright defiance could be avoided. We need to pick our battles wisely but many situations can be avoided altogether. Prevention really is better than any cure !

TV time and computer time has to be limited as it can take over a child's existence and the difference between the virtual world and that of the real world becomes rather blurred. Preventing this from becoming a craze is easy. But once it is part of the routine, then expect tantrums if you want to impose a new order!
Fighting over toys is another area where prevention can help. Having duplicates of the same toys is a great idea especially if you have children of similar ages. This prevents some of the issues of sibling rivalry.
If there are rows about any of the daily routine activities like cleaning up and tidying up after playing, you just have to insist that it is part of the daily routine and that we cannot NOT do it.
Again these precautions and preventative measures can go a long way to preventing bad behavior children becoming part of your life. Sometimes children refuse to clean up and it is here that parents get dug in and state that there will be no tea or snack until it is done.
Instead, it is a much better idea to just sit around and wait for the cleaning up to happen. There is no point in threatening or imposing punishments. You just have to wait it out.
