Our new meetings hotel couldn't have come at a better time for Stevenage, which is currently undergoing major urban regeneration and economic development. Designated a New Town in the 1950s, Stevenage is often thought of as a modern development. In fact, it was once a Roman settlement. It grew to prominence during the 18th century, with several fine old inns and other heritage buildings; the Gothic stately home of Knebworth House is located nearby. During the New Town development of the 1950s, much of Stevenage Old Town was demolished, (including the magnificent Town Hall). However, a sizeable part remains, and is home to several community groups - who can enjoy favourable rates when they book meetings through us at Holiday Inn.
Stevenage's urban renewal plan is centred around the 20th century New Town centre, which had begun to look tatty just decades after it was built. Areas of the Old Town are also being restored and their heritage value promoted. The ambitious plan is now well under way, with handsome new architect-designed buildings, like us at Holiday Inn, complementing the old.
