There will be no expensive hotel bills, no tips and no waiting on railway stations for the next train. The bill at the end of the holiday will be a great deal less than it would be if one hired a car and then had hotel bills on top of the hire.
A great advantage of hiring a vehicle is that one becomes mobile. Instead of being fixed in a single destination one can wander, free as the wind, wherever fancy takes one. The complex infrastructure of a country like England actually improves the mobility of an independent traveller.
Glancing at a road map one may see a stately home, a castle, cathedral or park that looks inviting. A touch on the accelerator and turn of the steering wheel and one can be there.
