Going Travelling? Prepare a Packed Lunch

Going Travelling? Prepare a Packed Lunch

Going travelling, whether you're just going on a long car journey to another part of the country, or a much more demanding trek across to another country altogether, can really tire your mind and your body out. Eating is a good way to replenish lost energy and relax, but travelling often doesn't present the opportunity to eat regularly, especially if you are in a hurry to get somewhere, so here is a guide on to be prepared if hunger should strike while you're in the middle of nowhere.

Keep Hydrated

When you're travelling it can be very easy to become dehydrated, as a change in altitude and temperature can drain your body of both energy and vital fluids, so make sure you take plenty of water with you. While fizzy drinks and squash can be very refreshing, they can also make you more dehydrated, which can affect your general wellbeing, and your concentration. So stick to bottled water, especially if you're going somewhere where finding clean drinking water is a problem. Of course be sure to take care of your disposable water bottles, throwing these around will litter the environment and leave your holiday spot far less beautiful than when you found it. So make sure to find appropriate recycling points where the plastic in these bottles can be re-used.Going Travelling? Prepare a Packed Lunch

Fruit

All fresh fruit has a use by date, and some fruit, such as bananas can bruise very easily, and become inedible, so if you're travelling a long way, opt for dried fruit and nuts as a snack. Sultanas, raisins, dried banana and hazelnuts are all very popular choices, and if you manage to get hold of some fresh milk that you can keep cool, you can mix them together to make muesli. Fruit is obviously very healthy and this is a great way to keep you feeling good, fit and nutritious whilst travelling it is all too easy to get sucked into the trap of fast food while you are on a journey, bringing along some fruit is a great way to fight this. Also you can cut up raw vegetables and pack them in a similar manner for an extra healthy snack.

Sandwiches

Depending on how far you're travelling, a sandwich could be just the thing to pack. If your journey is only going to be a few hours, then it's ideal, but for longer journeys try pre-prepared meals, such as pasta and rice with sauce, which are kept cool in a cool bag. Of course if you decide to bring more significant meals you will also need to bring along cutlery and potentially even plates. Also watch out for microwaves along the wave as a bowl of pasta tastes a million times better when it has been heated up.

Don't start your next summer holiday hungry, dehydrated and thirsty, this will only make you grumpy. So make sure you pack plenty of food or drink, because it will keep you happy and make sure that you don't spend far too much money on cheap petrol station food.
