Don't Leave Your Holiday Preparations Till the Last Minute
We've all been there, agonised for days over which resort to go to on holiday, got all excited about booking the holiday, and then let this excitement take over, so that everything else to do with holiday gets forgotten until the very last minute, when such important tasks, such as buying travel insurance, booking a house sitter, or remembering to book the time off work. Start Early
We all know that the early bird gets the worm, but of us actually take this advice, and put really important tasks off until they can't be ignored, such as packing suitcases or arranging how to get to the airport from home. So make sure that these are the first details that you arrange after you've booked your holiday. Packing your suitcase can take a lot of time, especially if you want to go shopping for a new wardrobe before you go, so make sure you have a lot of time to get this done.
Work Well, Not Hard
There is always someone who spends a huge amount of effort getting ready for their trip, yet you can see that they aren't actually making any progress. Dashing around in a panic won't get you in anywhere, no matter how hard you try. So be sure to sit back and take a look at all the tasks you need to do and then set about doing them in an organised and efficient manner. Planning holidays is actually surprisingly easy thanks to the magic of the internet, it just appears a bit overwhelming at times. Also be sure to have your fellow travellers help you there's no need for you to plan the entire venture yourself, especially if you are going on a trip with a group of friends. So delegate and spread tasks around - if everyone else helps out you will be able to do all of your organisation and planning in just an hour or so. In travel, just like everything else, it's better to work smart than hard.
Relax
Cramming all your tasks together at the last minute isn't going to anyone any favours, so be sensible, and if it all gets too much, make sure that you take a deep breath, try to relax and see if you can get other people to help you. Make a list of all the important things that need to be done, such as arranging childcare and cancelling any appointments that you may have made for during the time that you are on holiday.
Any holiday, especially a family holiday is meant to be able to help unwind and relax, but if you've left everything till the last minute, you may find that you'll arrive at your destination with a lot more stress than you intended, so make sure that you keep on top of your holiday plans, and not let them get on top of you.
