Putting Together Your Festival Wardrobe

If you've been to a festival before then you'll find it much easier to know what clothing to take, what you didn't wear last time and any festival fashion faux pars, but if it's your first time then it can be rather daunting when it comes to packing.

There are so many things to consider when deciding what clothes to take to a festivalhere are some questions you should ask yourself

What will the weather be like?Putting Together Your Festival Wardrobe

What style of music is it?

What type of venue is it?

Will it mostly be indoor or outdoor?

How many days will you be there?

Once you've worked out the answers to most of those questions you'll start to have some idea of what clothing pieces will work best for your festival. Remember, festival fashion not only needs to work for all weathers but it also needs to be versatile enough to take from day to night.

Starting with the obvious, you'll definitely need to take a few pieces that are waterproof because the British weather is often unpredictable and festivals always seem to bare the brunt of the bad weather. A lightweight waterproof mac or cagoule will be easy to throw in your bag and will dry quickly. Don't bother an umbrella; it's so unpractical.

Then onto the wellies. They're everywhere at festivals and rightly so, those mud soaked fields and pouring down rain mean wellies are often the footwear choice for festival goers. But wellies needn't be boring, you'll find lots of fun wellies in bright colours and fun patterns, and if you can't live without your heels you'll love wedges wellies. If you're lucky enough to see the sun then pop on a pair of gladiator sandals, they're comfortable, trendy and secure unlike other sandals.

With clothing the trick to festivals is layering; come rain or shone, if you go for the layered look you'll be ready no matter what. Wear boob tubes, camis or vests to make the most of the sun and throw on a cardigan or jumper to throw on if those dreaded clouds make an appearance. Another way to layer is with leggings, they're great at festivals because they're so versatile; wear with tops, dresses or skirts for a practical but fashionable look in all weathers, and take them off if it starts to get too hot.

You're best to avoid denim all together at festivals unless you're guaranteed great sunshine in which case cute denim shorts or a denim skirt will work best. The problem with denim is that if it gets wet it's unpleasant to wear and takes a long time to dry. It's also a heavy material to be carrying around.

Look around any festival and you'll see lots of scarves! That's because they're so versatile. A simple summer scarf in bold or floral print has so many usesaround your neck if it's cold, tied around the waist for a bohemian look, on your head if you feel yourself burning or used as a wrap in the evenings.

You're likely to be out and about most the day and evenings at a festival so you'll want a practical bag that will work for most things. It needs to be comfortable to carry, with plenty of space and something secure. Opt for one with plenty of inside pockets and an outer zip to protect your belongings, while a cross body bag will mean your bag is safe and your hands are free.
